Halfway up the sky
Halfway up the sky
Above the paddy fields
Where frogs croak noisily and plop
Between the coconut palms
Tall in silhouette
An orange moon is hung
Hot Goan summer night
The heat is thick and breathless
Although the sun's long dipped
Scarlet yellow shocking pink
Sudden flowers splash
And from the ocean rhythmic
The shush of lullaby
Hot Goan summer night
Halfway up the sky
Above the paddy fields
Where frogs croak noisily and plop
Between the coconut palms
Tall in silhouette
An orange moon is hung
Hot Goan summer night
The heat is thick and breathless
Although the sun's long dipped
Scarlet yellow shocking pink
Sudden flowers splash
And from the ocean rhythmic
The shush of lullaby
Hot Goan summer night

Of course I love this!! Comes as no surprise when I stood in the garden the other night staring at the full moon I was thinking of you and imagining a thousand diamonds each one dancing on a crest of a ripple out in the Indian Sea. The sunset too. Wondering what Joshua is seeing in Borneo too. xx
ReplyDeleteNow, I want to be there - I think you should sell your words to the Goan tourist board.
ReplyDeleteIt is indeed a lovely place and all the senses - colours, scents, sounds, heat, are assailed. As we walked back last night in pitchest black from eating at a local woman's home - fabulous fish curry- the stars were so clear, especially Orian overhead- and the silhouettes of the coconut trees, it was a beautiful sight.
