Wolf wind

Wolf wind

Wolf wind is raging
Pent within the stack
Blow blow buffeting relentless
To be in, roar and rampage
But here’s another element
Primitive
Will keep the wolf at bay
Oak and pine ignited, crack and pop
Retort
Orange purple lick and flicker
Flaming, wins the day
October’s first fire, glamorous
Gladdening the hearth
2rd October 2010, Hounoux, for Clare my fellow fire-watcher

  1. Just so perfectly what we in England needed to hear right now. Woke up at 6 this morning to hear that old wolf wind just raging! Was the title one you invented, or is that what the French call the equinoctial gales?

  2. It was my own name Jenny, very much suggested by the howling wild beast sounds in the chimney! Clare and I just sat and enjoyed the crackle of the fire and that cosy feeling of being indoors in the warm and safe from the ravenings outside. Very much enjoying Clare's company and getting to spend satisfying time together, uninterrupted.

  3. You must remember my affinity for fires and yes I can identify with your words for both these powerful elements we also live on a hill! Been so tempted but havn't lit one yet, feeds the soul and gladdens the heart!

  4. I do indeed remember that you love to make fires and to play with them Jude- part pyromaniac I dare say! I'd say give in to it, and make the first one of autumn- lovely!
