This time, like news of grief
about to hit, tsunami on its way
and all of us but bobbing flotsam
going under
the tolling bell, doom in the knell
dread in the exit polls.
So, sick at heart and sicker
we wordless took to bed
enough said
opting for oblivion
news blackout, curtains drawn
and lovely the nightingale sang.

The two dates show your continuing grief. The nightingale will remain, through and after. (I remember that lovely Hounoux bird.)
ReplyDeleteI remember, sadly no nightingale, the caw of gloating crows maybe? Was reminded by someone on the radio the other day that birds have no idea about the fact there may not be another day their birdsong is a welcome to the dawn of the new day. So touching seeingTony Benn in the film We Are Many yesterday, a reminder to me of the power of optimism alongside anger (his words), I need to seek out nightingales Sally to strengthen the heart and welcome each day before yet more gloating comes my way. xx
