Enchanted by the dance
Degas sat and watched and drew
Enchanted by the dance
In charcoal/chalk, in pastel/ pen
He seized the moving line
PliƩs, arabesques, the dancers fly,
Twirl and whirl
Or perfect poise on points
Moments as they pass
Pinned on the page
Degas drew and drew and drew
Captured like a dream
Surpassing beauty on the move
Enchantment of the dance
Degas sat and watched and drew
Enchanted by the dance
In charcoal/chalk, in pastel/ pen
He seized the moving line
PliƩs, arabesques, the dancers fly,
Twirl and whirl
Or perfect poise on points
Moments as they pass
Pinned on the page
Degas drew and drew and drew
Captured like a dream
Surpassing beauty on the move
Enchantment of the dance

Lovely poem Sally-just describes the mood and effect of the exhibition so well.I go back in my imagination and am there again especially in the pastels room with the vibrant colours.Have been reading up on Degas and one suggestion was that his failing eyesight was a factor in the vivid pictures-see you put my favourite one up! Good to be together and look forward to the next.
ReplyDeleteI go back in my imagination too Jill and think especially of those gorgeous pastel colours; plus the wonderful Little Dancer room too. I loved the whole day and felt I learned a lot about Degas (NOT Dayga it seems). Thank you so much Jill for a super present.
