Song of Ancients
When the wind the wild is howling
Wolfpack baying
No moon night
When the world's a whirlwind spinning
Chaos raging
All in flight
When it's tumult tumult pounding
Senses screaming
Boundless fright
In the midst and in the maelstrom
In the eye of hurricane
You may hear the song they're singing
Song of ancients
Hear them singing
All the multitude the many
They are singing they are singing
Those who went before
Song of ancients
Hear them singing
Bringing word
That Peace will come

Inspiring words Sally, but what inspired you to write it?
ReplyDeleteSmall world, here I am writing to you from a country that isn't my own, even tho'it is my home and this weekend we have some Ozzies staying here with us, albeit not from Victoria, but from Perth.
When are you back? Did you know we had a most dreadful snow storm on Tuesday, its wrecked my garden, trees full of leaves and snow became to heavy to bare the weight and snapped. All I could hear was the constant snapping of trees, it was very sad.
I was inspired by reading a quote in an exhibition of crafts in Sydney's Botanical gardens, which are gorgeous, which spoke of hearing the song of ancient people even in the midst of chaos. It must have been aboriginal I would think, but I found it powerful as an idea and wrote it in my notebook. As you say, nowadays such a small world, with us listening on computer with our Aussie friends to election results, here in Yackandandah. Your family visiting I guess?
ReplyDeleteI read your account of the snow storm and found it unbelievable. What is happening to the weather??? We now have autumn colours and chill, after bright high summer in Bondi last week...
Wow is all I can say at present. This had a powerful impact on me. The sense of the ancients'presence was almost palpable.
ReplyDeleteFrom Lily: I thought your poem was AMAZING granny!
ReplyDeleteGill asked the question I was going to ask. Loved it but couldn't think how the Labram's might have inspired it. Miss you. Pam
