Memory-keeper
A memory-keeper I made
In blues and red and white
Embellished with shot-silk gold
For the moon like a sovereign,
Writing in stitches winding
Upwards, declaring my love
For the boy, his name on the train
On the tracks at the hem
Who one day will grope
Tiptoes, curious to see
The hidden in the pockets,
First dummy, shoe, white rabbit,
Poem, the book cousin wrote, full of love
A memory-keeper I made
His own museum piece
Recording his history, his small
As yet, life-line, his connection
To past, three generations back
For jogging of memories, remember
Do you, remember, when
The century was young
And love came to call
Knocked, entered, and stayed to grow
To laugh by the fireside
To settle, don’t go
For holding it down, bird under glass
Butterfly moments, pinned on the page
Fleeting, ephemeral
A kiss, infant hug
Enjoy all we can, for tomorrow
He’s fled, flown
Grown, leaving home,
Not sad, glad rejoicing at birth
New life ahead, I chose
Colours and cottons and shot-silk for moon
And I stitched
And embroidered a work full of love
In blues and red and white
A Memory-keeper I made
A memory-keeper I made
In blues and red and white
Embellished with shot-silk gold
For the moon like a sovereign,
Writing in stitches winding

A Memory-keeper I made
September 9th, 2009, en route for Grenoble, for Luca
When I read Luca, for light I imagined a copy of that poem going into his memory keeper.I can see there is so much in this poem for you at the moment Sally. How strange as keep reading it I move through different emotions, for some reason writing in stitches winding up and butterfly moments, pinned on a page fleeting suddenly feels okay you are so right enjoy all we can. I'm sure work full of love is the enduring strength that will remain hidden within those pockets he will dip into.
ReplyDeleteps: Does this make sense! I should have put your words in italics or something. What I was trying to say was I experienced a change of state thus 'suddenly'. Its good to remember to cherish moments. Thanks x

Dearest friend and granddaughter, I cannot tell you how it made me feel to read your comments. You are both such wonderful Encouragers, as are the other people who read my blog too. You are right Lily that I do just love poetry and seem to want to write it all the time. How about you- any more written yet? Jude - thank you so much for your poem, and my goodness did it speak to me too. I see now why people cry when they read some of my poems. Your poem moved me so much. It is brilliantly expressed. Did it make you feel better- more able to stand up and fight? My poems very often help me to overcome difficult feelings. The next poem I publish, which I wrote a couple of days ago, will show you how much I am in tune with you. Much love to you both
